Dear Parent(s);
So pleased with the students efforts in the SAGE Writing Assessment. I was not able to read or give assistance in anyway, but the manner in which they went about responding and using the tools provided for them showed me that they listened in class and were wanting to do well. Most have finished, but we will be letting those not quite done with their final prompt (out of 2; one opinion and the other informational), to finish during the remainder of the week. We have had some illness, and students that have been out of town with their families. Reminder again, that the field trip on the 18th . You should have received a permission slip. There are no fees being requested as this is the field trip allotted by the school and the buses and fees were worked into the original request at the beginning of the year. Lunches will need to be brought from home if the permission slip was not sent in by last Friday. We have begun our pioneer experience and that will be on-going for about 3 weeks. It is "Oregon or Bust". We are teaching, practicing, and assessing fractions in math. I am really pleased with their understanding so far. This month's genre for reading is Biography. It doesn't have to be a huge book, one that is just right for them. Reading hours are due for January. Many students are already completing the 75 hours of at home reading, and many more are going beyond. All are receiving free books of their own choosing from the selection I have built up in the classroom. Remember; Classroom DoJo for daily communications and this letter about every other week. Keeping you informed is important to me! I welcome any and all input. Sincerely, Mr. Greene - this website is denofwolves.weebly.com Parents,
Thank you for your responses to the field trip on January 28th. On that Wednesday we will have our normal schedule with the early and late readers. At the arrival of the students at 9:05 AM we will begin name tagging, gathering lunches and organizing groups. The buses need to be on the road and moving at 9:30. As we will be bunched on the buses we are asking all parents beyond the three that volunteered first, to be prepared to drive or carpool to the Aquarium. All parents that are assigned to groups need to be background checked through the office secretaries by Friday, January 23, 2015 (assuring all background checks are completed before the event). In the classroom we are beginning the study of Fractions in math. They have completed division and multiplication strategies and are now ready to broaden their math understandings. In Science, we are being the study of Weather. In writing we are beginning to understand opinion writing. A new post on Utah Compose concerning Summer Homework will be their next venture in writing ( aside from the Wolf composition being done in class as a beginning essay for opinion writing). Spelling this week is just 4 items on the contract sheet. We started on Tuesday and will be testing still on Monday. Thank you for your pushing the reading hours at home. The books for rewards are purchased and students are collecting those now. Remember 75 hours of at home reading is rewarded with a book of their choice. Every 25 hours beyond that they will have another choice. Running, walking, jogging miles for the Shark Challenge are being collected ongoing. I know they are doing this, but very few miles are being reported for recording. As ever, thank you for your support. Looking forward to meeting with you in two weeks at Parent/ Teacher Conferences, February 4th-5th. Sincerely, Mr. Greene Dear Parents,
There are several things that need to be brought to your attention; first, we will be having a 4th grade field trip on Wednesday, January 28th. We will be going to the Living Planet Aquarium. We need three parent volunteers, whom will not need to pay an entrance fee. We have received a grant that will cover the students entrance fees (thanks to Target). By the beginning of next week we will have a permission slip sent home, and a suggested donation for the fees covering the buses. We will also be needing a school lunch count by the end of next week. If you are one of the first three to volunteer you will need make arrangements for a lunch from home. The next item for you to remember is that this Friday, January 9th we will be having our Native Americans of Utah program in our classroom. It will begin at 12:35 P.M. and will last about 1 hour. We will be having a special guest, Savannah Reed's Grandfather will be presenting Legends, a Bear Dance, and other information representing the Ute Tribe, his tribe. Finally, we are being the second round of DRA, reading assessment our district uses to show fluency and comprehension skills this week. They will be assessed during their early or late times they have for reading. We are in need of tissue donations as this is the season for colds and flu and we seem to be unable to keep enough in stock. Dear Parent(s);
This is our short week as our Fall Break starts on the 16th and continues through the 20th. Teachers will be meeting on the 20th without the students. Soooooo Have a Great Fall Break!!!!!! A few reminders for this month; the first, genre (Fiction) book report due by the end of the first week in November or anytime it is completed before. Second, their Informative Writing is due by the 31st. Spelling this week would not work because of the length of the week, so we will begin again on Tuesday, the 21st. Thanks, The Leader of the Pack, Mr. G Welcome to our Den;
While Saratoga Shores students are Sharks we in the Den are Wolves. We are hungry for learning on both Land and Sea. This week we will have homework on Monday - Thursday. That will include Math and Spelling, also Reading 1/2 hour nightly. We recently had our first Table Point Payoff and 3/5 Tables qualified. Way to go Wolves. I have rearranged desks so the new month is open for the chase. Homework completion is paying tickets and our monthly grab bag was visited. They are doing well, with only a few exceptions on the regular homework completion. Planners are being used for spelling words. Tests for spelling and new words are given on Mondays. Want to thank the parents that are helping in the room and going on trips to Wendy's. I could not do it without you. Have a good week and please comment on our new webpage. Perhaps there is something you would like me to cover each week in the Greenehouse Gazette. Sincerely, Mr. Greene |
